1. Install and enable
Choose Add to Chrome on this page and confirm installation in Chrome. Open AIBlock from the Extensions menu, then turn on Enable protection.
AIBlock Help
Install AIBlock, enable protection, and hide supported AI Overviews while keeping ordinary search results. Follow the steps below, then explore the optional guardrails.
Chrome Web Store: 1.1.3.
Three AI Overview display modes, compact Show/Hide controls and reliability fixes; no new permissions.
Installing the extension is only the first step: protection starts off until you choose to enable it.
Choose Add to Chrome on this page and confirm installation in Chrome. Open AIBlock from the Extensions menu, then turn on Enable protection.
Open Settings from the popup. Keep Search Protection enabled. Set Google AI Overview to Hide for no Show button, or Collapse / Show on demand to reveal it when needed. The AI Mode control is separate; leave it off if you only want Overview cleanup.
Return to a Google results page and reload it. In Hide mode, supported AI Overview surfaces should disappear; in Collapse mode, they start closed with a compact Show AI Overview button. Ordinary results remain usable. Not every query displays an AI Overview, so its absence alone does not prove a match.
Want the original Google interface back? Turn off Enable protection and reload the page. Your individual feature choices remain saved. See the illustrated Search Protection example.
Google's Web filter and AIBlock offer different ways to avoid seeing AI Overviews. Neither is an account-wide off switch: Google describes AI Overviews as a core Search feature, not a feature you can disable globally. See Google's explanation of AI Overviews and the Web filter.
| Method | What changes | Scope and limits |
|---|---|---|
| Google Web filter | Choose Web on a results page to see text links without AI Overviews in that results view. | Changes the selected results view, not your account. It does not make AIBlock necessary for that view. |
| AIBlock in Chrome | Enable Search Protection, then choose Hide or Collapse under Google AI Overview to control supported Overview surfaces while ordinary results stay usable. | Applies in the Chrome profile where AIBlock is installed and enabled. It does not change other browsers/devices or prevent Google from generating AI responses. |
Use the Web filter for a text-links view without installing an extension, or AIBlock for local hiding or on-demand display on supported results pages while protection is enabled. AI Mode has its own control. If an Overview remains visible, check the Search Protection troubleshooting answer.
In AIBlock 1.1.3, enable protection and Search Protection, then choose Google AI Overview in Settings.
Hide supported Overview surfaces without adding a Show button. Ordinary results remain available.
Start supported Overviews closed. Choose Show AI Overview on the results page to reveal one, then Hide AI Overview to close it again. Use a click or focus the button with Tab and press Enter or Space.
Let Google display Overviews normally. This does not turn off AIBlock or the other protections. AI Mode keeps its separate control.
The selected mode stays saved when you pause/resume. Existing on/off Overview settings become Hide/Don't change on upgrade. Each surface's Show/Hide choice lasts only on the current page. If no supported Overview appears, no Show button is added; its absence alone is not proof of protection.
Real Google Search captures · October 12, 2026 · 1.1.3 source matching the packaged runtime. Narrow desktop viewport, dark theme; account/search header cropped. These are not Chrome Android screenshots or a promise that every query has an Overview.
AIBlock changes supported interface surfaces locally; it does not prevent Google from generating AI content or block AI network requests. Coverage varies by website interface, account, language and rollout. See the complete 1.1.3 changelog.
Hides or collapses supported AI Overviews, with a separate AI Mode control. Ordinary results stay available.
Watch it work → 02 · ChoiceAdds a short, skippable pause before supported AI tools.
Watch it work → 03 · ReminderShows a calm reminder when AI Pause is off.
Watch it work → 04 · GoogleHides selected AI entry points and verified recommendation or upgrade surfaces.
Watch it work →This illustration shows Hide mode. Collapse instead adds a compact Show/Hide control; Don't change AI Overviews leaves Overviews alone. AI Mode stays separate. Availability varies by query, account, region and Google UI.
Each illustrated round lasts about 10 seconds, starts when scrolled into view, and loops three times while visible. Replay restarts it.
AI Pause appears before supported AI tools and lets the user choose Continue.
When AI Pause is off, AI Site Warning reminds users to verify facts and sources, avoid private information, and keep important work in their own words.
Google AI Cleanup has separate controls for Gemini, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, and Drive. It targets selected entry points and verified recommendation or upgrade surfaces, not core editing or chat.
In 1.1.1, Gemini cleanup uses verified interface markers, not plan-name searches through your chat. Unrecognized prompts can remain visible.
The master switch and individual controls keep every protection optional.
Turning the master on enables all protections. Turning it off keeps your individual choices saved. In 1.1.1, deselecting every feature leaves the master unchanged; no guardrail runs until a feature is enabled.
Choose Hide, Collapse / Show on demand, or Don't change AI Overviews in Settings. AI Mode cleanup remains separate.
Choose cleanup individually for Gemini, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, and Drive.
AI Pause takes priority; AI Site Warning acts as the lighter fallback.
AIBlock applies supported interface checks in the browser and does not provide an account or backend.
Enabled guardrails inspect only supported interface elements and text needed to apply them.
Core protection works without creating an account or sending prompts to AIBlock.
Settings and non-query status counts stay in Chrome; browsing history is not collected.
No. AIBlock applies four focused browser guardrails to supported surfaces. It is not a network-wide blocker, chatbot, or AI detector.
Check that Chrome has enabled the extension, then check Enable protection and Search Protection. In Settings, set Google AI Overview to Hide or Collapse, not Don't change AI Overviews. Reload the results page. Collapse shows a compact button when a supported Overview is present; Hide does not add one. If the issue remains, send your Chrome and AIBlock versions, the visible surface, and a redacted screenshot through AIBlock Support. Do not include private search terms or account information.
No. AIBlock hides supported surfaces in the Chrome browser where it is installed and enabled. It does not change your Google account settings or affect other browsers and devices.
Availability and interface markup can vary by query, account, region, language, and product updates. Report reproducible cases through AIBlock Support.
Workspace cleanup targets interface metadata, not document contents. Gemini cleanup in 1.1.0 also checks visible link and button text, which can include conversation text. Version 1.1.1 uses verified interface markers and protects chat and input regions. Cleanup does not transmit or retain inspected text. See Privacy for version details.
Yes. AIBlock exposes separate settings for its guardrails and supported Google products.
